Sociology, Social Anthropology and Nationalism Studies
Alexandra Oanca: I am a PhD candidate at the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at Central European University. I have a master's degree in Sociology and Social Anthropology from the same institution and a BA in Sociology from the University of Bucharest, Romania. My research interests focus on: entrepreneurial strategies of urban and regional (re)development, mega-events, expertise and knowledge, the mobilities and immobilities of urban policies, critical policy studies and the anthropology of policy.
As CEU is a research-intensive university and I did not have as much teaching experience as I would have liked, I considered that it would be a great opportunity to work with RGPP as a tutor for Sociology, Social Anthropology and Nationalism Studies and to gain valuable teaching experience during this time when I am also writing my PhD dissertation. Tutoring for RGPP was a valuable opportunity for me to be the main instructor in courses which I design and which take place over the whole academic year. Furthermore, I support and I have a great appreciation for RGPP, its role and mission, its positive benefits for young Roma graduates, and for the people – both students and staff – who are working and dedicating themselves in making this program possible, productive and enjoyable.
