Coming from Spain with a degree in philosophy from University of Granada, Ismael finished RAP, Roma Graduate Preparation Program in 2014 and went to the University of Notthingham as a grantee of SRT. There Ismael learned the critical discourse analysis methodology focusing on political speeches and texts. "This methodology is crucial for my research as I am researching the ideology behind the Roma Civil Society. [T]he scope of my research as a philosopher is to outline the production of identity narratives which are shaping during the process of combating anti-Roma racism".

Currently an Open Society Initiative (OSF) fellow, Ismael is now a PhD student in Peace Studies, at the Instituto Interuniversitario de Desarrollo Social y Paz. He regularly writes pieces on Roma discrimination in various publications among which El Pais.
